Edvard Grieg and Antonín Dvořák met in Vienna in 1896. How long did they talk? What did they say to each other? What exactly did their meeting look like? We don’t know, so the Dvorak Traveller pogramme worked with the kindly fiction that the two composers had an uninterrupted and friendly chat on a cruise ship sailing down the Danube. The fact is, that in 1903, during Grieg’s visit to Prague, the two great composers intensified their friendship. Dvořák’s daughter Magdalena even sang several of Grieg’s songs accompanied by Grieg himself on the piano Pilsen Philharmonic for Children and Youth at a Grieg concert. The first suite from Peer Gynt was also played there. Grieg saw a performance of Dvořák’s Rusalka at the National Theatre. The programme Dvořák the host, the second part of the trilogy, focuses on the shared moments of Dvořák and Grieg in Prague. With respectful authorial fabulations adds to the mosaic of known facts about the course of the meeting, which took place 120 years ago.
