Standing ovation for Jiří Suchý
On Thursday, the crowded Měšťanská beseda paid tribute to Jiří Suchý, a native of Pilsen and a legend of the Czech theater scene. On the occasion of his jubilee, the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, together with the Semafor Theater, organized a concert, which was an extraordinary musical experience for all present. The most famous melodies from J. Suchý and J. Šlitr were heard from the stage, such as Včera neděle byla, Babeta, Zčervená, Tereza, Ach ta láska nebeská, Je nebezpečné dotýkat se hvězd and much more.
Markéta Procházková and Ivo Hrbáč performed as soloists, Jiří Suchý himself and Jitka Molavcová sang in the second half of the evening and both received enthusiastic applause. On behalf of the Pilsen Philharmonic, its director Lenka Kavalová congratulated Mr. Suchý and Mayor Martin Baxa on behalf of the City of Pilsen. In the evening, he humorously accompanied Martin Pášma and conducted the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Chuhei Iwasaki.
