Měšťanská beseda
The Bedřich Smetana Primary Art School is one of the oldest schools of its kind in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1920 as the Municipal Music School and has since 1924 borne the name of Bedřich Smetana. In its early days, it was located in Tylova Street and was dedicated to the education of professional musicians. In 1978, the school relocated from Kopeckého sady to a building in Revoluční Street, where it continues to operate today (classes are also held at two separate locations: Doubravka and Vinice).
Currently, almost 1,000 students study at the school in three fields: music, dance, and fine arts. The school collaborates with various institutions, including the Pilsen Region, the City of Pilsen, Municipal District Office of Pilsen 4, the Pilsen Philharmonic, the JKTyl Theatre, the Pilsen Conservatory, other primary art schools in the region, Czech Radio in Pilsen, and the University Hospital in Pilsen. The school’s students perform publicly at concerts, festivals, competitions, exhibitions, and other events in the city, the Pilsen Region, the Czech Republic, and abroad.
