Katedrála sv. Bartoloměje
On the occasion of the 730th anniversary of the founding of the city of Pilsen, Jan Ryba´s mass for soprano, alto, tenor, bass, choir and organ is prepared. Pilsen Bishop Tomáš Holub will lead the mass.
Tomáš Bolub, bishop of Pilsen
"This year, we celebrate the anniversary of our Pilsen, and it is very good to remember it with gratitude because many of us in Pilsen are not living badly. There are undoubtedly many ways to commemorate Pilsen anniversary. I am pleased that Pilsen Diocese and the Pilsen Philharmonic can be a part of the colourful array. Thus, we will create a unique and distinctive event combining common prayer with beauty and harmony. The Mass for Pilsen is, for me, as bishop, the most appropriate way to express gratitude for the past and, at the same time, to ask the good God for a blessed future for all the citizens and patriots of Pilsen. And because, according to the old Czech proverb, whoever sings prays twice, it is wonderful that my favourite Pilsner Philharmonic will be the partner for this Mass with the performance of Jan Jakub Ryba’s ordinarium. I wish you a deeply spiritual and artistic experience."
