Měšťanská beseda
The Pilsen Philharmonic, led by conductor Chuhei Iwasaki, presents a vibrant program that blends romantic passion, virtuosic brilliance, and youthful energy. The concert opens with the dramatic overture from Halka, an opera by Polish composer Stanisław Moniuszko, regarded as the founder of Polish national opera. This is followed by Sergei Rachmaninoff’s famous Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini—a dazzling and deeply emotional work performed by the outstanding Armenian pianist Sofya Melikyan. The evening concludes with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1, composed when he was just nineteen—a piece full of irony, dramatic contrasts, and brilliant orchestration that marked the beginning of his extraordinary musical journey.
