Saint-Saëns & Coetzee & Schultsz
Měšťanská beseda
Český rozhlas Plzeň, Studio S1
This entertaining and educational program by the Pilsen Philharmonic explores the ordinary human traits of seemingly untouchable musical geniuses from all periods of music history.
It raises questions such as: Were they eccentrics or just regular people? Bon vivants or unbearable perfectionists? Loving fathers or the terror of their households? What were some of the world’s greatest composers like in their everyday lives? How did they interact with those around them? With fellow musicians? With other great artists? What did they avoid, and what were their guilty pleasures?
With respect, humor, and a gentle understanding of their flaws and quirks, this program reminds us that composers are not just faded faces in dusty photographs or portraits in music classrooms — they were real, living people who, just like us, experienced joy and sorrow, triumphs and failures.
